Cox Motorsport are looking forward to the opening round of the season, Sloan’s favourite event of the year, the International Rally of Whangarei this weekend 12th-13th April.

For the 2014 season, Sloan Cox will again be paired with fellow Rotorua co-driver Sarah Coatsworth, and are aiming to further improve on their great results during their debut 2013 season.

“Sarah and I worked well together last season but we were still learning so much. We come into the 2014 season stronger and I know we have the right package to achieve podium finishes and rally wins” states 22 year old Cox. The team have spent the off season further developing the Taslo Engineering Mitsubishi Evo 10, with one of the main focuses being to make the car even lighter to keep up with new regulation changes in the New Zealand Rally Championship.

“The Car has been completely stripped and re-built with the aim to have a reliable fast car, so we plan to keep everybody on their toes,” comments Sloan. Sloan is looking forward to the two night super special stages, something Sloan has done well on in the past. “It takes a lot of trust between driver and co-driver to drive flat out at night time, but once the trust is there, it is an awesome feeling to fly on gravel in the dark.”

Rally Whangarei gets underway with a ceremonial start from 3.30pm on Friday at the Cameron Street Mall, with the action kicking off from 9.00am Saturday morning. After two days of competition covering 241km of competitive special stages, including the two night super special stages at Pohe Island, the teams will finish at the Quayside Town Basin at 3.00pm Sunday.
