Small component failure bring premature end to Jansen’s NZRC season
The failure of a small $50 engine part has brought a premature end to Christchurch’s Matt Jansen’s participation in this year’s Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship – driven by Vinz [NZRC].
Matt and co-driver, the vastly experienced and fellow Cantabrian Rocky Hudson, were powering their MITECH WELDERS Subaru through to the high-speed finish of special stage 4 near Culverden in North Canterbury, when the component cried enough – with catastrophic consequences.
“We were flat out in fourth gear over a crest, but on landing the strain on the part was too much for it and the engine let go,” said a bitterly disappointed Matt. “All that was left was to coast through the [stage] Finish, put out the fire in the engine bay and park the car out of the way of the following cars….”
“Up to that point the rally was certainly challenging and living up to the pre-event predictions regarding the introduction of the night stages and the impact of the weather running the rally at this time of year.”
“Unfortunately the extent of the damage means that our involvement in this year’s NZRC is seriously compromised, but we can’t sign off before thanking our great PMTMotorsport Team of Rocky, Fraser, Dave, Nick and Taylor for the countless hours and effort they always put in to make it possible for us get out on the stages.”
This year’s NZRC campaign would not have been possible without the dedicated support of Mitech Welders, PMT Motorsport, Dunlop, Armstrong Subaru, Stadium Finance, Blue Bridge & Strait Shipping, HGM Construction, Speedy Clean, and ScottSpeed Performance Engines.
