Holder Rewarded at Canterbury Rally
Mt Maunganui based rally driver David Holder was rewarded for his resolve to drive consistently with a solid third place overall at last weekend’s Lone Star Rally of Canterbury, which doubled as the third round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC) powered by VINZ.
Both the Saturday night and the Sunday racing stages produced some extremely tricky conditions at times, with unpredictable ice patches appearing and leaving little grip. However Holder, in the Stadium Cars Mitsubishi, made a solid start as he continues to develop his skills in the car, finishing the two Saturday night stages strongly and clocking convincingly into third place overall.
“Normally I’m not a fan of the dark, but this rally we had some fantastic lights thanks to Dylan Turner. The road was well lit and it felt like everything was in slow motion” reflects Holder. Sunday saw Holder and co-driver Ben Hawkins continue to hold third place on stage times as they consolidated their efforts to finish on the final podium spot for the rally. “Ben and I are starting to develop a good relationship in the car which will hopefully allow us to ‘up our pace a bit’ in the coming rounds” says Holder
Now sitting in third spot for NZRC points, the team is all the more determined to get to the next championship round in Wairarapa. However the challenge is now off road, finding the finances to complete the fourth round later this month. “Basically it’s a finance issue for us now, so we will be working hard for further sponsorship over the next couple of weeks” states Holder. “A huge thank you to all our partners who have made this year possible so far”
