Summerfield looks for top result on home soil
Rangiora’s Matt Summerfield is looking to continue his superb form to date into the third round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship, Lone Star Rally Canterbury.
The event is Summerfield’s home rally, with the service park based in his home town of Rangiora and half of the events stages are based in the Ashley Forest which the 23 year old has covered plenty of miles in.
Along with co-driving sister Nicole, Summerfield showed some incredible speed to take the leg two win at the previous round, Rally Otago, while also claiming maximum points on the power stage with their first ever NZRC stage win.
The event is one which has offered up a mixed bag for Summerfield in recent years. Prior to the event becoming a national championship round, Summerfield took his first outright rally win on the event in 2012, but since becoming an NZRC round in 2013, Summerfield has failed to finish with a roll-over and engine failure.
Sitting a strong third in the NZRC, Summerfield understands the need to bring the Castrol Edge Subaru Impreza home for a strong haul of points.
“This event has certainly thrown us up a mixed bag in the past but I can’t wait to get underway and put a good result on the board,” says Summerfield. “We had some really good speed at Otago and that gives us a lot of confidence heading to our home event.”
Matt Summerfield Rallisport would like to acknowledge their sponsors, without whom their 2014 campaign would not be possible: Castrol Edge, Autotech Services, North Canterbury Energy Centre, The Gearbox Company, Chatterton Builders, Liquorland, I C Frith Insurance Brokers and No Limit Construction.
