Thomson to run 4WD car at Whangarei farewell

Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship 2WD champion Dylan Thomson will step into a 4WD Subaru for the final round of the 2024 season at Whangarei next week.

Thomson has already secured both the overall 2WD title and the NZRC 2WD title alongside cousin and co-driver Bayden Thomson in their Ford Fiesta Rally 4 car.

But with nothing to play for at the final round, the talented Christchurch-based driver will pilot the ex-Dave Sievers Subaru Impreza in Open 4WD.

“I cannot thank the people involved enough for making this opportunity happen and we are looking forward to getting back into a Subaru in Category 1 for the last round of the championship at the International Rally of Whangarei next weekend,” Thomson said.

“This will be the first time Bayden and I have been in a 4WD together and we cannot wait to have some fun on the Northland roads.

“Big thanks to Speedhub Motorsport for preparing the car on such short notice and Harrier Signs for once again sorting us out with a wrap and supporting us over the last eight years.”

For Thomson, Whangarei is likely to be his swansong in the national championship at least for the foreseeable future.

“I think this is it – next year we don’t have any plans to come back. Maybe one day, in cat five in one of my own cars,” he said.
