Current events get tick of approval, new events split

Competitors in the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship are split on where they would like to see the championship take future rounds to.

A recent competitor survey asked for feedback from those contesting the 2024 championship around a range of items, including location preferences for future events.

Hawke’s Bay proved the most popular option with 37% of participants keen on a return to an event that featured on the 2021 and 2022 calendar before the horrible flooding event early last year forced the championship to find a new event.

There was plenty of support for a Waitomo Rally (35%) as part of the national championship – it was last run in 2019 as a round of the championship.

Coromandel (32%) was chosen as the third most popular place to take a round – a regular stop on the championship until 2019.

A Nelson Rally (25%) and Canterbury Rally (25%) were also popular choices while others to feature were a Taranaki Tarmac round, Lawrence becoming an NZRC round or Wyndam getting a spot on the calendar.

Competitors were able to choose multiple events to return.

A big majority of competitors don’t want to see any of the rallies used in the 2024 calendar removed in a real show of support for the existing events.

A whopping 78% of competitors said all the current events are worthy of a spot on the calendar.

Those that did vote to have a particular event removed were almost all due to geography rather than anything else.

Multiple competitors spoke about having more rallies but on a rotation basis to provide variety from year to year.
