Hawkeswood returns to power three-car Mazda effort at South Canterbury

Reigning Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally champion Andrew Hawkeswood will make his return to the championship at Rally South Canterbury and will be joined by son Jack and Aussie star Brendan Reeves in a three-car Mazda team.

Hawkeswood missed the opening three rounds of this year’s championship due to work commitments but has locked in his entry to the three remaining rounds this year with his championship-winning car.

Son Jack will make a return to the NZRC as well having not competed at that level since Rally Otago in 2017.

Australian star Reeves has won Rally Coromandel the past two years and had been hoping to put together a full tilt at the New Zealand championship. He makes his season debut and will immediately renew his rivalry with good friend Hayden Paddon.

“I have been quite busy with work both here and overseas so I have certainly had my hands full,” Hawkeswood said.

“It makes for pretty sad weekends when everyone else has been out enjoying themselves.

“I sort of always planned on doing Coromandel and Rally New Zealand but I have some pretty fond memories of South Canterbury – I think I last did it back in 2008.”

Paddon will return for the fourth round having missed last week’s Lone Star Rally Canterbury. He will joined reigning Australian champ Nathan Quinn is also back for a third successive round.
