Christchurch’s Matt Jansen has re-entered the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship – driven by Vinz [NZRC] in top form as he grabbed a 3rd place finish at this weekend’s DriveSouth Rally of Otago.

Matt and new co-driver, the vastly experienced and fellow Cantabrian Rocky Hudson, powered their MITECH WELDERS Subaru through the 15 high-speed special stages south of host city Dunedin without any major issues to record Matt’s best-ever result at this, the southern-most round of the 6 round national series.

Matt returned to Otago to recommence his battle with the wonderfully challenging roads full of crests and brows, and succeeded in bettering his fine 4th outright in 2012, a result that was pivotal in him winning his second Junior national title with one round to spare. Until today, that result was the shining light on Matt’s Otago CV as his 2011 and 2013 visits both ended prematurely with mechanical problems in the first special stage…

“Apart from that 4th in 2012, it’s been either Bad Luck or No Luck in Otago, so it’s awesome to at last take home some silverware from down here,” said Matt.

“We had a great battle all rally long with several other drivers and to eventually come out on top is very satisfying.

“Rocky did a great job calling the notes and the PMTMotorsport Team were ‘Spot On’ whenever we needed them at Service, none more so than when the front brake calipers failed during Saturday afternoon.”

In fact it has been a very memorable weekend for the Hudson household as not only did Rocky finish third overall, but his wife Lisa co-drove top Southland Classic driver Derek Ayson to third in the International Classic Rally as well.

The PMTMotorsport Team now turn their attention to their ‘Home’ rally at the end of this month, over Queen’s Birthday weekend, when they will be rallying through the iconic Ashley Forest and county roads of North Canterbury.

Matt is also working hard to raise the necessary finance to enable him to cross Cook Strait when the series returns to the North Island at the end of next month for the 4th round – the Trusthouse Racetech Rally Wairarapa.

“We are going to give anyone interested in coming for a ride with me in the MITECH WELDERS Subaru the chance to win one of six rides we will be doing on two separate occasions – Sunday July 13th and then again on November 2nd,” said Matt. “It’s a great way to experience our sport first hand and we are more than happy to give people the opportunity. We will be announcing more details in the coming weeks. ”

This year’s NZRC campaign would not have been possible without the dedicated support of Mitech Welders, PMT Motorsport, Dunlop, Armstrong Subaru, Stadium Finance, Blue Bridge & Strait Shipping, HGM Construction, Speedy Clean, and ScottSpeed Performance engines.
