Jones makes jump to open 4WD in 2024

The uber-talented 19-year-old will run a Smith & Sons-backed Skoda Fabia R5 and will make his championship debut at the season opening round in Otago in April.

The car has been run over the past few seasons by uncle Kingsley Jones and the younger Jones is aiming to put a whole season deal together.

He turned heads in 2023, winning an epic battle for the Rally Challenge 4WD class and announcing himself as a real star of the future.

“We feel we are ready for the next step after winning the Rally Challenge last year,” said an excited Jones.

“It will be a big move for us, with only two years of experience and already up with the big boys now but it is something I am looking forward to.

“We will be sticking to our own plan – we have big goals set and working hard to achieve these by following a methodical plan.

“We are committed to Otago after winning the Otago Rally Scholarship and hope to be able to continue to piece together the rest of the campaign.”

Last week, Jones was confirmed as one of five talented young drivers to be supported by the Winmax Brakes Young Drivers program.

It will be the second season he has been part of the initiative.
