Marston chasing win on home soil
There might not be a happier person in the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship than Canterbury’s Josh Marston has he counts down to the return of his home event.
Lone Star Rally of Canterbury in association with Joe’s Garage returns to the national championship this weekend for the first time since 2019 and Marston has been licking his lips ever since the calendar was announced.
“Obviously, I am a local so love having a home rally – it just feels great to be able to get out there – and then secondly the roads are great – I really enjoy them,” the RDL Holden Barina AP4 driver said.
“We have a mixture of forestry – Mt Grey is one of the best forestry stages in New Zealand – and then we go to North Canterbury and really flowing and really good roads.
“I am really looking forward to it.”
Marston has a close connection to the Canterbury rally with his family involved in organising and he has long been championing its return to the championship.
“Dad is on the organising committee and has been involved in it for years, so it is really cool to see it come back,” Marston said.
And given his start to the season – a podium finish at South Canterbury and solid haul for fourth place in Otago – Marston sees this rally as his chance to really stake a claim to the championship.
“I think everyone is most comfortable on your home roads and we will definitely be having a big push there,” he said.
“They are using some different configurations and a different order to what we’ve done before, but you certainly look forward to your home event.”
